RETURN AND BFF LINKS

In mid-July 2006, the 16 BFF members with other Shin Buddhists and interested people attended the annual Shin retreat at the Barre Center of Buddhist Studies in Massachusetts. The principal teachers were Dr. Taitetsu Unno and his son Dr. Mark Unno from the State Oregon. The teachings covered many topics but Saturday's morning and afternoon sessions explored the "dark side" that is, our deep foolish and shadow nature, and how the light of Great Compassion through the practice of deep hearing and the nembutsu can transform our suffering into liberation.

Dr. Taitetsu Unno quoted Shinran Shonin's Hymns of the Pure Land Masters, such as the following stanza.

Through the benefit of the unhindered light,
We realize shinjin of vast, majestic virtues,
And the ice our our blind passions necesarily melts,
Immediately becoming water of enlightenment.
