One day Ananda, who had been thinking deeply about things for a while, turned to the Buddha and exclaimed: "Lord, I've been thinking- spiritual friendship is at least half of the spiritual life!"  The Buddha replied: "Say not so, Ananda, say not so. Spiritual friendship is the whole of the spiritual life!"

Supporting Memberships

Become part of our dynamic and inspirational international spiritual community that is diligently working to deepen and broaden the practice of Buddhism. We need your financial support to pay for our operating expenses so that we can keep teaching the Buddha Dharma to Connecticut and help continue the growth the BFF affiliated community (NASBA) throughout North America and beyond. Supporting Membership funds are separate from the Capital Campaign Fund which is earmarked for the creation of our new dharma center in Middletown, Connecticut, USA. Join us and become a Supporting Member and collaborate with a uniquely American Shin Buddhist community. Thank you.

Based on your financial situation, we offer six membership categories to choose from:

White Path Supporter

Patron of the Dharma

Benefits Of Supporting Memberships

By becoming a Buddhist Faith Fellowship (BFF) and NASBA supporting member you will join many others throughout the USA and Canada who aspire to support the important and necessary work of our fellowship that is deepening and extending the Buddha Dharma throughout North America and now even in Latin America and Europe. You do not even need to be a Buddhist to join.  As a Supporting Member, you will receive:

  • Discounts on BFF retreats.

  • Discounts on courses at our New England Institute of Buddhist Studies (NEIBS).

  • A tax deduction since the BFF is a tax exempt organization, under section 501 (c) (3) of the IRS code.

  • Satisfaction that you are helping to further the Buddha's teachings of compassion and wisdom throughout the continent.

In addition your Supporting Membership will benefit countless other sentient beings by:

  • Support the many activities and unique programs of the BFF which is the headquarters of the North American Shin Buddhist Association (NASBA).

  • Provide funds for BFF local and national advertising, and outreach activities such as taking part in trade shows like the Many Flavors of the Buddhism.

  • Offer funds to purchase essential meditation and religious supplies.

  • Enable the BFF and NEIBS to reduce the cost of programs, courses, workshops and retreats, so that regardless of means, all those interested in participating in our activities will have the opportunities to do so.

  • Give funds to our scholarship program for continued Buddhist education for those of less means and for our dharma teachers.

  • Prop up our NASBA affiliated chapters by providing a pool of funds to pay for local and national advertising and offer supplies.

  • Sustain our environmental and activist arm, the Social Action Project, so it can continue its essential work of sharing its message of integrating the Buddhist teachings and environmental sustainability and social justice.

  • Help create new NASBA affiliated chapters throughout the world and offer them resources like books, cds, scrolls and other necessary religious supplies.

  • Maintain an American based organization that continues the good work of compassion and well-being for all sentient beings in this confused and suffering world.

What Do The Sunday Offerings Cover?

The financial resources coming from the regular Sunday morning offerings go to support the very basic financial needs of the BFF Sangha such as:

  • Printing & Costs

  • Some Local Advertisement
  • Ceremonial Supplies & books

  • State & Bank Fees

  • Web Site & Internet Access

However, these gratefully received funds are too little to cover the much larger BFF expenses, projects & sky rocketing growth. To further clarify, Supporting Memberships provide for general operating funds while the Capital Campaign Fund is targeted for the creation for our new center.

Is A Supporting Member The Same As Sangha Council  Member?

A Supporting Member is not a  Sangha Council member of the Buddhist Faith Fellowship but instead is a partner with many others to financially support the community’s activities and programs. To be a Supporting Member, one can be member of a different Buddhist community or even a non-Buddhist, from Connecticut or out of state. For their generous contributions, the BFF offers Supporting Members certain privileges such as discounts on its programs.

On the other hand, BFF Sangha Council Members are Supporting Members who through course work and regular attendance have shown a strong commitment to our community. A Council Member enjoys the ability to be appointed as a Officer of the Council and have input in all sangha matters, and Board of Director and Sangha Council meetings.
