Element VI: (Discussion)

This segment is probably one of the most important part of the gathering becaue it is here where an intellectual and emotional engagement with the dharma takes place. Choose topics that deal with daily life and avoid too abstract subject matters.  Facilitators can use readings from Buddhist books as platforms for discussion. Also, Buddhist videos  are employed to facilitate discussion.  Remember that discussion must be interactive, participatory and relevant.

Examples of topics come from Shin books from Dr. Taitetsu Unno’s River of Fire, River of Water and his Shin Buddhism: Bits of Rubble Turned into Gold. Also, Thich Nhat Hanh books are also suggested as discussion platforms.

As for videos, BFF Chapters have done the following titles.

"Little Buddha" (movie) starring Keneau Reeves

"God and Buddha" (Deepak Chopra & Robert Thurman)

"The Life of Buddha" a documentary

"Flowering of Conscienciousness" (video) by Eckhart Tolle
